Crisis support

To keep counsellors and clients safe, all sessions are planned in advance and out of session support is not available at Feeling Out Loud.

Counselling is not appropriate for those experiencing a mental health emergency, or those struggling with homicidal or suicidal thoughts.

There are specialist services equipped to provide out of hours support, including provisions for people experiencing a mental health crisis. I have provided signposting information to support in these instances.

Mental health emergency

If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis, you should seek appropriate support. The below links may help you with this.

If an emergency arises that is life-threatening or needs immediate attention, you should contact emergency services on 999 or go to your nearest A&E department.

Out of hours support

Before calling a helpline, please consider:

  • Their opening times
  • The cost involved, if any
  • Confidentiality; services often have policies on what to do if someone says they’ve harmed themselves or are actively planning on doing so.
  • If the line is busy you can try again, try at a different time or seek support from another service or helpline
  • If you cannot find the above information on service websites, you can ask them directly.
